The seven elements of music are a good way to retain an overview on any composition you’re creating, and also a good way to get used to analysing your favourite compositions to define more clearly what characteristics you particularly connect with and how you might want to develop those same features in your own compositions.

    The order is not critical.

    1. Melody
    2. Harmony
    3. Rhythm
    4. Form
    5. Texture
    6. Timbre
    7. Dynamics

For songwriters there is also of course the enormous topic of lyrics.
