This video shows you four ways of using material we’ve looked at in lessons. In the top left corner you can follow the low part for Green Onions. In the top right corner you can follow the high part for Green Onions (notation below). In the bottom right, you can play all the way around the blues using a single blues bounce/boogie rhythm. In the bottom left, you can play a double blues bounce/boogie rhythm. Spend 5-10 minutes playing this through – you can slow it down using the cog/gear at the bottom right corner of the video if it’s a bit too fast. Play through as many of the parts that you know and aim to play three times each.

  1. Top left part: Here’s a reminder of how to play the low part. The turnaround referred to at the end of the video is the last four bars.

2. Top right part: here’s a reminder of how to play the higher Green Onions part. Remember to leave the silence in on beat 1 and use the pinkie for the 7th fret. The turnaround is the last four bars.

3. Bottom left – this is a reminder of how to play the blues boogie. Use all downstrokes with the pick. The turnaround is the last four bars.

4. Bottom right – this is a variation on the blues boogie where we can use the pinkie on the left hand to play the fifth fret. When we have done this in class you can try this one out too.
